Life Coaching or Transformational Coaching is like having a conversation that you yearn for, however rarely have. It is where you are actually listened to, perhaps for the first time in your life. The function of Life Coaching, like sports or performance coaching, is to enable the person being coached to be the best that they can be – by simply asking questions, questions that a person may be unable or unwilling to ask themselves.

The term “Life Coaching†as been around for a while however many people are not fully aware of just what life coaching is really about.
When coaching is mentioned or considered, a vision of a very vocal person pacing up and down the side of a basket ball court yelling instructions at players and possibly hurling abuse at the referee. Or it may be a vision of football coach viewing his team being demolished, a growing mound of hair is seen which is what he has torn from his scalp.
Of course sport of performance coaching isn’t all like that. These coaches are in place to help develop the talents of their charges by fine tuning specific skills. The focus is on that one area of talent whether it is a football player, basketball team member, swimmer or perhaps a drama or music coach. Coaching in all areas of performance is primarily focused on a specific skill relevant to the coachee’s talent.
There may be a degree of focus on a coachee’s mental state and their ability to focus but the primary focus is in the development of that specific talent.
There are similarities between life coaching and sports and performance coaching. There certainly is a focus. That focus is determined by the coachee. He or she will determine the area that they would like to address and improve. Where a sport coach would, for instance, instruct a player or athlete to change their style or change their playing method. A life coach allows the coachee to make that determination by skilfully guiding them to see a different perspective and options that previously, may not have been obvious.
Life coaching can assist in all aspects of life improvement. A life coach is not an expert in everything. They are not qualified to offer medical advice. What a life coach will advise is that seeking specific specialist advice might be a appropriate course of action to take. The coachee is always the one to make that decision and that decision is respected. If the coach identified resistance by the coachee to taking what would be appropriate action, the coach would focus on that resistance to determine a possible underlying problem.
Reiki is a non invasive, gentle, yet powerful method of healing. Reiki energy (described as ‘universal life energy’ or ‘spiritual energy’) is accessed by a practitioner during treatment, enhancing the body’s natural healing abilities and promoting wellbeing.
Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

It is becoming more accepted these days that energy healing modalities exist and that they are very effective. There may be a degree of skepticism around energy healing methods particularly from the medical community. However, as people generally become more aware and open to different forms of treatment for health problems that we all suffer from at times, alternative methods of treatment are becoming more accepted.
There are a couple things to keep in mind with Reiki and other alternate healing methods. These practices are not meant to replace traditional medical treatment.
All energy healing, including Reiki, is used in conjunction with medical treatments. Reiki healing is subtle. Generally, people expect a ‘quick fix’ to relieve symptoms of a health issue. Take a pill and the pain goes away.
Energy healing works in a different way. Where the pill may relieve the symptom and give relatively immediate relief, energy healing is more about dealing with the source of the problem and therefore won’t necessarily effect an instant ‘fix’ but instead allows and encourages the body to do what it does best and repair itself in time.
For example, Reiki treatment can relieve pain that clients have suffered from for considerable time. Medication can relieve the symptom however the pain may return. Reiki treatments can address the root cause of the problem and the subtleness is when the client realises after a time that that pain is significantly reduced or gone. This may be over days or even weeks but the pain is gone often doesn’t return.
We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body though pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body. Reiki can help to un-block these negative energetic pathways.
Resource management is the efficient and effective use and allocation of resources – when and where they are needed. Resources such as time, finances, skills, production resources (the ability to produce something through work or activity), and information technology (knowledge and education).
Along with these traditional forms of resources, we also each have inner resources. The aim through coaching and the practice of good living skills is to not only better manage your physical and financial resources, but to also access more of your inner resources – to release and realise your true potential.
Often we block off that potential through limiting beliefs that restrict our ability to move forward. It is like a having a current model car capable of easily cruising at 100 kilometers per hour and however the limiting is speed to 20. Or a warehouse capable of distributing hundreds of tonnes of produce each day but using horse and carts for delivery.
Coaching is an effective way to work through those limiting beliefs that hold us back can begin to realise more potential and to better use the resources that we have. Resources such as time. Time is our most valuable resource because unlike the other parts of our inventory including, money, possessions and even relationships, the time that we have is limited. Once it is gone, we can’t get it back. Finding the best way to utilise our time is the key.
The first session is a complimentary session where you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire which will generally give a good indication of the areas of which session would suit you best.
Generally, if you have a particular problem or concern that you would like to deal with, this is the starting point. However, it is important to keep in mind that a particular concern may be the symptom of a deeper problem. It’s OK if you’re not quite sure of which area or issue in particular you would like to look into. The benefit of an effective life coach is to unearth underlying psychological and emotional issues that may not yet be clear. This is done in a gentle and respectful process and relies on the art of asking the right questions, at the right time. Questions that the individual may not be able to ask themselves.
The first session is set for around half an hour, along with a follow up session go for around 1 hour. However, there are no hard and fast rules with regard to time. If it becomes apparent that the client is on the verge of a significant breakthrough for a particular issue, a session can extend.
Sometimes a point is reached in a session where such progress has been made for a particular issue and limiting session time is not in the clients best interest.
The first session is free. This is designed to confirm there is a good match between client and coach and the relationship is comfortable. The first session also determines what it is you would like to work on with a suggested plan.
